Bob Blackwell: Shoeing Clinics

Bob Blackwell teaching farrier shoeing
information to veterinarians at a University of Missouri at Columbia, MO,
USDA veterinary medical officer (VMO) training clinic. Bob is a highly
trained and skilled farrier (accredited by Cal Poly and the CRC) and lacking
only 1 year of veterinary school. Blackwell has assisted and
worked with noted veterinarians in various aspects of corrective shoeing
from California, to the Mid West to the University of PA .
Blackwell has done work with all legitimate
forms of corrective shoeing and has worked with
veterinarians
for over 30 years helping to combine the knowledge of veterinarians and
farriers helping to produce effective treatments and cures for many race
track injuries, stifle problems, laminitis, etc. Having shod on the race
track he is trained to shoe all breeds of horses and when working was licensed
as a race track farrier by the Racing Commission in several states. Outside
of equine problems, Bob has also worked with small animal veterinarians
in areas unrelated to horses which includes working with veterinarians
to correct sports dog injuries, etc.
Bob Blackwell has also trained others
to shoe horses and has conducted clinics for those
interested
in various aspects of shoeing throughout the US, and in Australia and England
where he toured with a wild west show and rode for the Queen of England.
Among famous horses which the now "old cowboy" has shod are the Knotts
Berry Farm horses, "She Kitty", Shriner's Rose Parade horses, "Joll Bars",
to name a few of the "celebrity" horses.
Today Blackwell is semi retired but teaches gaited horse shoeing clinics for the general public. He is also DQP (a position created by the Horse Protection Act for the purpose of checking a horse's feet for compliance with this Act.) Blackwell has also served as a DQP coordinator and has trained DQPs. He is now a DQP for the MFTHBA (Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association) but has served in this capacity with 2 other HIO's also. As a DQP coordinator and helped to set up a new HIO for the inspection of horses entering natural horse shows. His clinics are informative and entertaining and are often done in conjunction with his round pen and problem solving clinics aimed at teaching the rider to incorporate gentle, practical, and supportive training techniques in their riding and training program.
